CHI will assure clearer accountability and contribute to the enhancement of the quality of non-government education in Canada. This will be done through assessments and reviews based on objective, reliability, relevant information, and the timely release of that information along with recommedations for independent school improvement.

Objectives

• Provide a broad range of research information about quality to support informed judgement and decision-making.
• Develop student assessment instruments and practices that contribute to enhanced teaching and learning.
• Model positive and establish practices within its own organization in order to bring high standards and superior practices to all its activities.

Activities

• Design and implement a comprehensive program of student assessment related to government-established parameters.
• Develop and implement a provincial performance indicators system for independent schools.
• Promote research in best practices in assessment and accountability.
• Conduct quality reviews (accreditation) in cooperation with school boards.
• Conduct annual conferences in order to debate assessment-related issues.
• Publish information on educational alternatives in order to promote informed parental choice and schooling options.
