After three years of discussion, including sessions with the OACS High School principals, the academic council reached a number of significant conclusions as the basis for an approach to improving the quality of faith-based independent schools. |

The OACS school evaluation program will continue as the baseline reference point of operational competence, and continuous improvement, on a school-wide basis for both elementary and secondary schools.

The OSSD inspections will continue as the minimal public accountability standard for public reference.

The Accreditation Program remains the standard for defining a good school.

The Exemplary Program will be the vehicle for encouraging specific evidence of educational excellence-the best that you can be/do with God's gifts.

This service will encourage schools to identify and refine excellent programs in operation in independent schools.
Definition
An exemplary school program is directly linked to success in enabling achievement of one or more goals of the school, is recognized as meritorious according to generally accepted standards and is worthy of imitation in other schools.
Standards
The criteria for what would constitute an exemplary program are as follows:

INNOVATIVE - the program represents elements that are unique or provides a new or different approach to the area addressed or affected.

TRANSFORMATIONAL - the program outcomes reflect a significant change in the lives of the students who participate or in their learning achievement levels.

MEASURABLE - the program results are measurable in that there is some tangible way to determine/evaluate the degree of effectiveness or impact of the program on the student, the school, the community, or all three.

COMMUNITY - the program enhances a sense of community in the school or in the extended support community and involves a significant number of students.

REFLECTIVE - the staff took significant time to research and design an evidence-based program and to assess local school data in that area.

TRANSFERABLE - other schools can develop the program in similar fashion to achieve similar ends.

School programs may be recognized in such categories:

Academic Enhancement - enhanced achievement in areas leading to credits (curricular leads to formal credits and includes the necessary resources)

Spiritual Enrichment - personal growth

Student Life Development - leadership enablement

Professional Development - internal/external opportunities

Support Services - non-academic programs for teachers, parents and students

Co-curricular - including significant events and competitions

Enrichment/Special Education

Identity Focus - moving from mission to measurement
